Upcycling has even taken to the runway. After relocating from New York to China during the pandemic, designer Shie Lyu delivered a refreshing debut collection, entitled “Glamour Buffer,'' during Shanghai Fashion Week.
She rejected industrial materials in favor of fabrics that reflect natural sunlight. However, most of the pieces aren’t for sale as they are all one-of-a-kind. She made each individual one from upcycled materials and doesn’t want to mass-produce them.
