Rich Brian is 88rising’s hottest new talent. The 21 year old Sino-Indonesian rapper began his career at the tender age of 15, making Vines and teaching himself English by watching YouTube and listening to hip-hop heavyweights Kanye and Drake and 2 Chainz.
Since then, his music career has soared. leading to collabs with industry veterans RZA (of Wu-Tang Clan, which is a fun bit of #blackandgold communion) and Offset, and K-Pop superstars Jackson Wang and Chungha. And well-deserved too: inspired by Tyler, the Creator and Childish Gambino, Rich Brian’s brand of indie-comma-hip-hop is good vibes all around.
So sit back, queue your music streamer (or record player or CD drive if you’re old school) of choice, and enjoy!

Drive Safe
Reminds me of late-night drives and sunny walks through sprawling fields with your best friends. The type of song you want playing in the indie movie montage of your life. Frank Ocean vibes. Chill, relaxing, with a beautiful soaring instrumental (listen through to the end! Trust me, it's worth it).

Kids
A lil Old School something something about this anthem. A strong drum boom underlying triumphant brass, and a melodic, lyrical rap celebrating self-empowerment, success, and being Asian in the industry. If you're bored of SoundCloud mumble rap, this is the track for you. When he finally name-drops Tupac, you think "yeah, that's 'bout right".

Attention (ft. Offset)
Witty in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way; described by one critic as "ironic" yet transcendent of irony. You'll double-take on a couple bars, all smoothly delivered in that fast monotone, and smirk. The beat is trendy and slick, and Rich Brian's flow becomes very Migos; Offset's verse slots right in.

Enemies
That 808s and Heartbreak or Lil Wayne 'print. The Drake, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert type of track: the Art of Autotune. Unbelievably catchy, yet moody, with a beat you can't help but bop your head to.

Kitty
Witty, ironic and just exceptionally fun (and funny!!) to listen to tbh. Enjoy the absolutely wild narrative Rich Brian spins, and laugh/wince with him at the awkwardness of his mad night out. Definitely a track to put a smile on your face.

These Nights (ft. CHUNG HA)
A perfect bop to dance with your bae to, to sit on rooftops with, or to throw on at 4am when dawn is about to break over a brilliant night out with your friends. Let loose and just vibe to the easy, sexy, electro-city pop. Chungha's vocals and the mellow autotune of Rich Brian's rap make for effortless listening.

Arizona (ft. AUGUST 08)
Chill, breezy and summery. The chorus makes me want to drop everything and just hop in a car and drive through sunlit maize fields and the red red deserts of the titular Arizona. The perfect hook for a sunny day where you want to forget all your responsibilities and just laze with your friends.

TITANIC (ft. Jackson Wang)
A dark, catchy trap banger. The hook is breathy and sexy, and the bars are very-give-no-f*** Rich Brian's run-on flow in the final act hits. The heavy electronic beat is intense - you can't help but bop your head to the rhythm.

DOA
A retro dance banger - evocative of the best 80s dancefloor anthems (and the Weeknd's recently dropped acclaimed After Hours)! Incredibly catchy: perfect to run to, jam to, or drive 20 above the speed limit to. It's just a shame the clubs (or gigs) aren't open - because this would easily make the crowd lose themselves.
