When the internet was not yet as widespread in China, most kids spent their free time watching TV or listening to music. Here are what the post-90s’ grew up watching or listening to. These things really formed a part of the collective memory of the entire generation.

  1. 1 The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber 倚天屠龙记 (2003)

Also known as The Sword and the Knife, this wuxia drama written by Jin Yong was so popular that it was on almost every regional TV chanel in China.

  2. 2 My Fair Princess 还珠格格 (1998)

As wuxia was popular among boys, almost all millenials grew up watching this costume drama about romantic anecdotes in the royal family of Qing Dynasty.  The main characters later all became widely known superstars in Mainland China and Taiwan thanks to this drama.

  3. 3 The Return of the Condor Heroes 神雕侠侣 (1995)

Also written by Jin Yong, this wuxia romance staring Louis Koo (古天乐) and Carman Lee (李若彤) is the childhood memory of many who grew up in the late 90s and early 2000s in Mainland China and Hong Kong.
