Who is Jeremy Lin?
If you follow basketball, Jeremy Lin needs no introduction. He is a basketball icon.
Jeremy Lin began his NBA career as a player on the Golden State Warriors. However, he became the Lin from "Linsanity" in 2012 as a player for the New York Knicks. An underdog, Lin was likely to be pulled off the roster just days before the beginning of "Linsanity". Soon, he became one of the Knicks top scoring players. He led the Knicks’ winning streak in 2012 and was promoted from the bench to the starting line up. Since then, Lin has played for several teams throughout his NBA career, including the Houston Rockets, LA Lakers, Brooklyn Nets, and Toronto Raptors.
Jeremy Lin’s NBA career is something special for the Asian American community. Asian Americans make up about 5% of the United States population. Meanwhile, only four Asians have ever played in the NBA. The rise of “Linsanity” was an unforgettable moment for Chinese and Asian basketball fans. He is a symbol of inspiration, hard work, and perseverance. From his underdog beginnings in the NBA to becoming a star, Lin is a basketball icon.
Where is he going?
This summer, many basketball fans and Lin supporters have wondered: what's Lin's next move? Now, we have an answer. Lin announced that he will play for the Chinese Basketball Association's (CBA) Beijing Ducks this season.
So, what does this mean for Lin?
Jeremy Lin will reportedly receive over $3 million a year at the Beijing Ducks. This is significantly less than Lin’s peak salary at $14 million with the LA Lakers. Who's winning? The CBA. Acquiring Jeremy Lin is a successful move for the organization and just might shift some fanaticism from the NBA to the CBA.
As of now, the Beijing Ducks have won three national championships: 2012, 2014, and 2015. Maybe, Jeremy Lin will help them win a few more.
