The Chinese Rise in Classical Music

Classical music is often thought of as western art. These days, it has become tremendously popular and important in China today.

I was drawn to the magnificent sound of the cello at five years old. Since then, I’ve spent countless hours studying the great works of renowned composers and listening to classical pieces. Classical music has had a tremendous impact on my life.

However, I always thought of classical music as western art. Most composers and musical legends from Beethoven and Tchaikovsky to Heifetz and Rostropovich were European. Yet, the emotions engrained in classical music are definitely universal.

Here is a list of Chinese musicians that are taken the classical world by storm and showing that it transcends ethnicity.

  1. 1 Yuja Wang

Wang’s fiery playing style, along with her expressive dresses and high heels has gathered international acclaim over the years. Her interpretation of Mozart's famous Turkish March has become very popular today.
