This is a Chinese tradition. When we step foot into our home, we take off our outdoor shoes and put on our indoor slippers. These slippers are exclusively used in the house.
They are usually found at the entrance of the house to signal to guests to please take off their shoes. Some households also have separate slippers for their bathrooms!
